The New Zealand Guest of Honour Pavilion at the 2012 Frankfurt Book Fair was the most popular Pavilion in the history of the Book Fair with over 90,000 visitors. Commissioned by the Ministry for Culture and Heritage, Pattersons collaborated with Inside Out Productions Ltd to develop and deliver a coordinated Frankfurt experience.
The Pavilion formed a model ‘pattern’ of New Zealand; an island set floating in an ocean under a starry sky. On the island, six 5 metre high sub pavilions created central meeting places containing intimate libraries, above which books suspended as chandeliers. The books ‘talked’ to each other across the central space via an audio visual show, referencing how literature speaks to us all.
“We found Pattersons team collaborative, and cooperative and the Pavilion project itself a great success”

“They listened to our concerns while striving to retain the integrity of their design. The Pavilion has been an outstanding success, credited by Frankfurt Book Fair with increasing public visitors against expectations. It was delivered on time and on budget. I hope that we get the opportunity to work with Pattersons again.”
